What Etsy actually takes from a sale
Every Etsy sale in the US carries three fees by default: a $0.20 listing fee (charged again whenever the listing renews or a multi-quantity listing sells), a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total (item price plus the shipping you charge), and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25. A fourth fee, Offsite Ads (12-15%), only applies when the specific sale came from an Offsite Ad click.
Offsite Ads: optional until it is not
Etsy runs your listings on other sites (Google, Facebook, Instagram) automatically. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy takes a cut of that sale specifically, 15% if your shop made under $10,000 in the trailing 12 months (you can opt out), or a mandatory 12% above that threshold (no opt-out).
You usually cannot tell in advance which sale will be tagged Offsite Ads, so price with the toggle off as your baseline, then treat the on-toggle number as your worst case.
Pricing backward from a profit target
Switch to Price for a target profit, enter your materials, shipping cost, and other costs, and set the profit you want per sale. The calculator solves for the item price after all four fees, so you are not guessing and re-checking a forward calculation over and over.
Once the price is set, generate tags and a title with the Etsy tag generator, then create pins for the listing in URL2Pin.
FAQ
What fees does Etsy charge on a sale?
A $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 (US sellers). If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add 12-15% on top.
When does the Offsite Ads fee apply?
Only when a buyer clicked an Offsite Ad and bought within 30 days. It is 15% and optional for sellers under $10,000 in trailing 12-month sales, and a mandatory 12% above that threshold.
Does this include sales tax or Etsy Plus?
No. This calculator covers the four standard US seller fees only. It excludes sales tax (which Etsy collects and remits separately in most cases), Etsy Plus subscription costs, currency conversion fees, and country-specific regulatory operating fees.
How do I price a listing to hit a profit target?
Switch to "Price for a target profit," enter your costs and desired profit, and the calculator solves for the item price that gets you there after all fees.
